MASSIVE TESTING EFFORTS IN BRIDGEPORT, WA

August 21, 2020

EAST WENATCHEE – On August 18, 2020, the Chelan-Douglas Health District and Columbia Valley Community Health conducted a community-wide voluntary COVID-19 testing event in Bridgeport, WA. 32 volunteers were tested and 12 resulted positive for COVID-19 indicating a 30% positive rate within the population sample. Each of the 12 who tested positive were not experiencing symptoms at the time of testing raising concerns about further transmission in the Bridgeport community.

In response to this high percentage rate, the Chelan-Douglas Health District will be offering free, voluntary COVID-19 testing available to Bridgeport residents. During this free, voluntary testing event, individuals who wish to be tested will be instructed on how to self-administer the test with the guidance of onsite health care professionals. This test is simple, pain free and results are provided in about 72 hours.

Over the weekend, between August 22 and August 23, community resource volunteers from the Bridgeport community will be visiting residents to provide testing information, COVID-19 education materials and masks. Testing will begin on Tuesday, August 25 from 12 (noon) to 4:00 PM at Fireman Park. Teams of volunteers will then canvas the community door-to-door until 8:00 p.m. for a home testing option.
